As real world human activity, and the comments threads here, demonstrate - what "science" says is largely irrelevant to what humans will do (or not) about what science says.

Fossil fuel is finite, energy descent is inevitable. We won't 'manage' that descent in any graceful way, because our currently dominant culture is not capable of it.

More importantly, there's just way way too many of us. Population has long been the biggest, least allowed to be spoken about elephant in the room. Mr. Crim's predictions of near future die-off are a good start, but what we really need is about that many of us left, rather than only that many gone.

Being such clever (but not wise) monkeys, we have in these industrial times been able to massively overshoot our species' carrying capacity, like no other species could ever do. That reckoning is coming for us regardless of power sources or lack thereof, climate change, or any of the rest.
