Ditto all of this, I will testify!...

I just "upgraded" from my faithful durable best-keyboard-ever 2011 T420 running Xubuntu linux to a "new(er)" 2016 T460 (also Xubuntu). Prior to the T420 I had an equally solid T400 for many years. Both of those were my one and only daily driver all-uses laptops. Also got an X230 (2012 vintage) in 2019, for when I needed to travel light (and backup in case of aging T420 failure). Don't use it much, but has been great for that purpose. All bought off eBay for cheap - the T460 was the priciest to date at $310 but that included a new 1TB SSD and 16GB RAM. The X230 on the low end set me back $97 (including shipping).

I had some qualms about what would happen to ThinkPad quality after the brand was sold to Lenovo, but I knew an Intel exec back then who said Intel was using Lenovo ThinkPads for massive corporate deployments with solid results.

The T460 keyboard is not as awesome as the T420 and T400, but still much better than anything on a Mac or any commodity Intel/WinDoze laptop I've ever tried, old or new. The rest of the T460 seems solid so far, though only a couple weeks in. And of course performance is quite a bit snappier given the newer processor and SSD.
