My experience is limited, but from it you are spot on about the understanding the Irish have about colonialism and genocide. I have a colleague & collaborator in and native to Ireland who has spoken to these very points in various conversations - she mentions the visceral understandings they have, from being subjected to all the usual strategies and tactics of colonialism. And, also she has pointed out that despite it all, the Irish in Ireland are in fact that rare thing in current times - aboriginal people still living in their own homeland. And with enough sovereignty and agency that someone like Clare Daly is in the EU Parliament and can speak from that perspective and experience.
