Speaking as a USA citizen from birth who has lived in northern Europe, and has family there - heed this article's advice. Europe is not an escape hatch, and it is not what we project on it. Culture shock is a reality for those used to the USA.

Really what is needed, if you don't like what is happening at home, is to stay in the USA and defend and advocate for what it could be. Our baggage may get lost by airlines, but it never seems to get lost when we try to run away.
