We have seen how capital vs. labor plays out. Can we please move on from that dead-end forever war?

It's time to stop looking for someone else to give us a "decent job" and start becoming the people who do that - who collectively and cooperatively own, work at, manage, and do everything else at businesses of all types, sizes, and sectors. Time to get multiple forms of cooperative legal entities established uniformly in all 50 states. Time to start teaching, and modeling, and living, cooperative society in all domains.

A potential irony here - but also a potential example - is that REI is a coop legal entity. It's a consumer coop, which means you as a member vote for the board members who make the broadest-level policies for REI as a business. You as a member can complain to the board about the situation in Ohio. Of course your voice alone is insignificant. But if thousands, tens of thousands, or millions of members complain about this, and also choose future board members based on their actions regarding this, then at least there's some direct action by members possible. In contrast to non-coop corporate entities, where your voice is completely irrelevant.

And imagine if REI were to convert to a worker coop, where the workers themselves were in charge and would set their own terms of employment.

Full disclosure: I've been an REI member for three or more decades. My dad joined so long ago his membership number was only four digits. I have been disappointed in some of the directions REI has taken along the way. That said, they still sell the hardcore mountaineering gear they got started with - more than can be said for some other old-time "outdoor" gear companies. I've know people who worked there, in various capacities. And, I will send a complaint to REI about this issue in Ohio as soon as I post this comment. I trust you will do the same.
