Well and concisely put. Those who claim to ‘care’ about ‘life’, but in fact ‘care’ only about unborn human life, while doing emotional and physical damage to already born humans as well as countless other forms of life, embody hypocrisy. How is it “pro-life” to threaten the safety of other living humans, to talk of killing them, to verbally and physically abuse them? To paraphrase a relatively well known spiritual teacher, get the log out of thine own eye before worrying about the speck in mine.

“Anti-abortion” is really about control of women’s lives — pregnancy, obviously, and pretty much everything else gets tied to that, in particular female sexuality. In most post-aboriginal societies, female sexuality so terrifies men that they resort to emotional and physical violence to try and control it. Some of the violence is direct , such as physical, emotional, and social coercion and repression; some is indirect, such as objectification and commodification.

“Pro-life” and “pro-choice” as the only options and the only framing are symptoms of deep cultural pathology. In both cases they reflect a society focused exclusively on rights of individuals (born or unborn) above all else, which is a problem all by itself. Ignoring the complexities and messiness and complications of our larger social is a ‘solution’ that is guaranteed to fail.
